I am on a quest to explore the 20th century, year by year, through literature, film, music, art, and other media. In this personal study project, it takes me at least one month, sometimes two or more, to cover most years. I entered the year 1900 in 2008, and am currently (Sept. 2014) in 1952. This project has resulted in some unique experiences for me — for example, spending two years listening to almost nothing but wax cylinder recordings, and a similar amount of time watching only silent films. Many of my choices are guided by my own particular interests and fascinations, but I am also attempting to broaden my general experience and discover new things. Omissions abound, but so do synchronic and diachronic revelations.
This blog, begun during the early 1950’s stage of my project, is meant to be an ongoing, incomplete document of material that I have spent time with so far. I also hope to eventually record some of the older things that I have gone through.
